Just got my @fish_shimano_north_america Ocea Jigger LD reels in. For those that haven’t had a chance to handle them, here’s the details:
In the box you get your instructions and schematic for the reel. You also get a light line drag cam. This flattens the drag curve to more of a 30lb class reel. The standard drag cam which comes installed has a steeper drag curve. The lever has tactile clicks so you know exactly how much you’re increasing or reducing your drag during a fight.
I’ve also included comparisons with and Ocea 2000 and Ocea 4000. The spool/sideplate height is the same as a Ocea 2000. The spool width is approximately the same as an Ocea 4000. Very palmable reel due to the Compact Body design, which amounts to a smaller sideplate on the palming side of the reel while maintaining line capacity.
The handle arm is 105mm, which is in between the 92mm Ocea 2000 arm and 110mm Ocea 4000 arm. But notice the new T-Handle. It’s offset slightly to reduce arm fatigue and ultimately more cranking power. You really need to fish it to understand how this subtle change makes a huge difference for jigging all day and for cranking on larger fish.
Internally, the Ocea LD has a new Infinity Drive system. This increases max drag output to 44lbs, but also reduces side plate pressure. This means that under load this reel takes up to 30% less force to turn the handle. I didn’t believe it until I fished it. The torque is unreal.
HG is 6.2:1 and gets 46″ per crank.
MG is 5.7:1 and gets 42″ per crank.
These should be available at dealers very soon. I fished these for 5 months pre-production. I’ll be spooling mine with 20lb @fishpowerpro for most applications, but I’m setting up one at least of my HG with 20lb Maxcuattro for the deep stuff.
